Travel Skin Care Tips
Planning a trip during the upcoming holiday season? Make sure you keep in mind that traveling can definitely aggravate your skin. Between an increased amount of germs, climate changes, and the added stress that can come from traveling, it’s no wonder most of us deal with breakouts during and after a trip. It can also be difficult to prepare for any situation, since everyone usually has limited packing room or has to fit everything into TSA-compliant 3 ounce bottles. Here are a few things to consider when you are putting together your travel skin care regimen.
Travel Kit
First, create a basic travel skin care kit that contains small bottles of your go-to cleanser and moisturizer. You can find empty plastic bottles that are TSA-compliant in most grocery stores. Make-up removing wipes are also great to keep for nights when you might feel too tired to go through your entire routine. Make sure to get gentle wipes that are also effective, as over-scrubbing your face leads to wrinkles!
Climate
Past those basic items, consider where you’re going and how the climate changes might affect your skin. For example, airplane cabins tend to have dry air so if your skin dries out quickly, it may be good to have some face lotion on hand. If you are going to a warmer, more humid climate consider a moisturizer with a higher SPF or that has shine or oil control.
Be Gentle
Finally, try to take it easy on your skin. Since your skin is dealing with the added stress and shock that can come from traveling and climate change, now is probably not the time to be using microdermabrasion or retinol creams. Also, if you are planning on any facial treatments before your vacation, make sure you have plenty of time for your skin to heal before you leave. Most facials like chemical peels or strong acne medications require you to avoid the sun, so that’s something to consider if you’re going somewhere with a hot climate.
Packing doesn’t have to be difficult when you simplify and take the time to plan ahead. Enjoy your vacation!
