Healthy Skin and Exercise
It’s no secret that there are many important benefits from exercise, such as losing weight, looking great, and building strong muscles. But the most important result of exercise is about maintaining an optimum level of health. This also includes the health of our skin. People may be surprised to know that exercise provides many benefits to our skin.
Benefits of Exercise on the Skin
Improved Blood Flow. Exercise causes increased blood flow, which then leads to improved collagen production. This helps the skin look plump and smooth. Additionally, improved blood flow helps carry nutrients to the skin, and carry away wastes and toxins from the cells.
Reduce Stress. When we exercise, endorphins are released, decreasing stress levels and reducing certain skin conditions like acne and psoriasis. Lower stress levels mean relaxed facial expressions, which will create less wrinkles and fine lines over time.
Produces natural oils of the skin. Exercise helps to regulate sebum production. This will reduce the excess oil that can clog pores. Sebum also moisturizes the skin, giving you an ageless and supple glow.
Protecting Your Skin During Exercise. Though exercise does many things to promote healthier skin, there are still a few precautions to be aware of during a workout.
-Wear sunscreen while exercising outdoors. The sun can cause sunburn, wrinkles, and even skin cancer.
-You must stay hydrated to allow for proper sweating.
-Apply a gentle moisturizer after a workout to help prevent skin irritation and dryness.
-Wear loose fitting clothing, or moisture-wicking clothing to avoid chafing and irritation.
-Make sure to avoid overheating by exercising in a cool environment. This will help you to avoid heat rash.
-Always shower after a workout to wash away toxins and remove dead skin cells that can clog pores. Clogged pores lead to acne.
